:The Radio City Christmas Spectacular: -Starring the Rockettes at Akoo Theatre -This is dazzling show that's great for the whole family! -This year's show features new costumes, new scenes, and 50-foot LED screen. -They'll be performing classics and new numbers and Santa Claus will be center stage for two new scenes. -At the Akoo Theatre in Rosemont, IL from December 14-30, 2012. -Tickets $30-75
Botanic Garden Winterland Express: -Already underway, now through January 6. -Holiday lights illuminate the entrance and courtyards -A Highlight is the elaborate miniature trains through a village of Chicago landmarks, all made from natural materials. -Tour decorated trees and see the gingerbread village display. -Local caroling groups perform some days. -Special events include Hanukah Concert December 9 and Christmas Concert December 22. -Non member $12 adults, $10 kids 3-12. Half prices on Tuesdays.
Brookfield Zoo Holiday Magic: -Open Saturdays and Sundays and Dec. 26-31. -Features over one million lights, animated light displays and laser light show. -Indoor animal exhibits will be open, plus restaurants and food stands. -There's music, ice carving, magic, local choirs and other holiday performances. -Adults: $15, Kids: 3-11 $10.50, Parking: $10 per car.
Robert Joffrey's The Nutcracker: -December 7 -27 -It's the 25th anniversary of Robert Joffrey's version that debuted in 1987. This version is "Americanized" with its setting in an American home. -The Chicago Philharmonic provides live accompaniment of the classic Tchaikovsky score for every performance. -Features 118 young dancers from Chicagoland area plus young vocalists from 5 local children's choirs. -$31 - $132.
Ice Skating: -City's rinks officially opened last Friday: McCormick Tribune Ice Rink at Millennium Park and The Rink at Wrigley. -Great views of classic Chicago locations - the city's skyline or a view of Wrigley Field. -Open daily through mid-March weather permitting. -Most are free. Wrigley Fridays-Sundays is $10 per adult, $6 children 12 and under. Skate rentals Fridays-Sundays are $10. Admission and skate rentals are half price Mondays through Thursdays.
