What is the difference between a full-length story ballet and a mixed repertory ballet program?
A full-length story ballet usually follows a narrative storyline, and tells a tale from beginning to end in a number of acts. Ie: Cinderella, The Merry Widow, Romeo and Juliet, and The Nutcracker. A mixed repertory program of ballets often consists of three or four shorter ballets in one performance. They may have a set storyline, or a more modern, less literal style; they may be the works of a particular choreographer, or a sampling of a few. On the Threshold and Spring Desire are mixed repertory programs in the 2011-2012 Season.
Are there discounted ticket prices for seniors or students?
Discounted student tickets are available to College students (full time only, with ID) one hour before show time. For more information see our Student Rush page. Discounts for seniors are only available for groups of ten or more through Group Sales. For more information see our Group Sales page.
How early should I arrive?
Please plan your visit accordingly and make extra time to account for traffic, weather, and parking. Traffic delays and parking can be unpredictable, so we encourage guests to arrive early to assure a relaxed, enjoyable experience. Entering the Auditorium Theatre about 20 minutes before the performance should give you time to get to your seat and to have a look at your program book before the curtain goes up. If your tickets are at Will Call, it is best to be at the Box Office 45 minutes prior to the performance because the lines to pick up tickets can be long.
What is the policy on late seating?
The theater ENFORCES a no late seating policy, meaning that guests will not be seated after the lights have dimmed. Latecomers will be seated at the discretion of the management – usually latecomers are seated in the back of the Auditorium Theatre until intermission. At that time, guests can move to their assigned seat. This rule is STRICTLY enforced.
What should I wear?
Appropriate dress is at the discretion of the patron. Guests dress in a wide variety of attire. Most commonly worn and recommended by the Joffrey is "business attire.” MEN: coat and tie; WOMEN: dresses, skirts or pant suits
What is the age requirement for children attending a Joffrey performance?
The Joffrey Ballet recommends the Nutcracker for children ages four and up. Younger children are also welcome if they are able to sit quietly for a two hour performance. Please consider other patrons when making this decision. You must purchase a ticket for all attendees. Babies in arms are discouraged.
