Are scholarships, financial aid or work-study programs offered?

A limited number of Merit scholarships are available each term to students who have demonstrated professional potential.

A limited amount of Financial assistance is also available for students whose financial circumstances would limit their exposure to classical ballet and other dance forms.

Students awarded scholarships or financial assistance must attend all classes assigned to their level. If an absence is unavoidable (i.e. illness, family emergency, etc.), students will need to notify the Joffrey Academy as soon as possible to excuse their absence. Additionally, students should participate in all workshops, programs, summer intensives, educational presentations, competitions and festivals on behalf of the Joffrey Academy when necessary. They will adhere strictly to the Joffrey Academy’s policies, will still pay any required registration fees and/or deposits on or before the first day of class, and will always strive to exemplify high moral character, a strong work ethic and excellence in performance.

Students awarded scholarships for the Pre-Professional or Trainee programs prior to May 1st will be required to attend the appropriate upcoming summer intensive along with all programming during the year. Students awarded scholarships for the Pre-Professional and Trainee programs after May 1st will be required to attend all programming during the year as well as the summer intensive during the following summer. Placement for summer intensives will be recommended by the Joffrey Academy Artistic Directors.

We do not currently have a work-study program available.

What performance opportunities are available?

Yes, performance opportunities are available. Students in the Pre-Professional Division and Trainee Program at the Joffrey Academy are invited to participate in two annual productions and may be invited to participate in additional events. All students in all divisions, except the Adult Open Division, participate in the Year-End Presentation that takes place during the last weekend of the second semester. Some students are also given the opportunity to appear as supernumeries throughout The Joffrey Ballet’s season at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University and on tour. Some students may be selected to participate in the children’s cast of Americas’ #1 Nutcracker.

If I am a current student, do I need to audition for the Summer Intensives?

Yes. Current students are expected to attend auditions for all summer intensive programs if they are interested in attending. Acceptance into programs that run during the first and second semester does not guarantee acceptance into summer programs.
